Rocky the Flying Squirrel

Post by GabrielDeafBlindPupFamily »

The cat was on the top of the fence, crouching for a hit as I got home from work. I put her upstairs, grabbed the camera, and you will never believe!
A tiny baby flying squirrel!

And then he jumped, trying to fly. He hit the ground and crawled into a little blue flower container.
I have a fear in the morning I will find a dead little flying squirrel ...
Little Rocky, so tiny, so scared ... so very alone.

Oh how sweet! I raised a baby gray squirrel once and she was so sweet. It was hard to let her go. Hope he is ok in the morning.

CAROLE!!!! HI HI HI HI HI!!!!

I gave SERIOUS thought to trying to capture him and feed in in a little cage, but too often when humans interfere with babies bad things happen! I HOPE his mama comes looking for him! I was making squirrel chirps trying to attract her, which were probably in squirrel-speak HEY LOOK OUT DANGER!

All, Carole is the one who saved Max' life. Max is a LW and was HW pos and Carole walked him through his treatment and works so hard trying to find his furrever home!
She also invited LWARC to the Bulloch County Humane Pet Festival on November 1 and it was our BEST EVENT EVER!!!

:red: BC4evr. Can't believe Karen didn't post her favorite piggies!

Karen, hope the baby's OK today. I don't know what a flying squirrel eats (never met one), but I suspect I'd have tried to rustle him up some grub! :D Hope he's tougher than he looked; most babies are.

Wail, now, critters, I thought I did! They disappeared, must be somethin good at the trough! Carole gave me an evaporated milk mixture and Chris Wolner gave me some great links. I wiki'd and got some more ideas. I also found on wiki they can spread typhus (the sylvatic type, like I have a clue!) Only 39 cases in a 25 year period but you know my luck  so ... That durn cat nearly got out this a.m. Back in the laundry room with her! Sun's still not up yet, so can't see if he's still here... If so, I will ahem ... attempt, but I have nothin to put him except the cat crate I bought to bring Albin home in and I'm certain the baby can get through those little squares :( If wallyworlld's open, I'll get a mouse cage. And am trying to find local wildlife rehabbbers. Not feeling too good about that here in Beaufort Co., SC :(

bc4ever! HERE YA GO!

I just came up from digging St.Jude's grave, it is goin to take days, as he is so big and my yard is so root choked. Possum's grave took 3 days. So I turn around to block blinddogs from falling in and breaking a leg, and I see a very dead baby flying squirrel lying belly up. Not molested as in cat or dog, just deceased. Rocky never stood a chance. May have starved to death, may have died of hypothermia as we were in the low 30s last night.
Rest in peace, little Rocky.

Oh, good grief. I wanted to *bump* Rocky because a year ago today I found him and you all jumped in to try to help me save him. And then I see just three days before St.Jude died, I found him... St. Jude my mourning time with you is flat in my face. I love you boy. I love every beautiful moment we shared. Possum you remember died November 15 and is buried right next to St.Jude. Losses every day we suffer, but we would never change a thing. We would gladly embrace our pain for the joy they brought to our lives.

Rocky was found. Horribly found. But I rejoice that I got to know him for a moment in time.

A year ago Sunday, Albin came into my life. He is a pistol packin somebody now and my sainted sister gifted me with a REAL camera! So I took five pics this a.m. of Angel, Albin, Ambrr and have to figure how to upload. I picked up Albin a year ago Sunday. What a year this has been, huh?

Duh...what am I thinking? If you could get them off your camera, you can upload them here. The easiest way I have found is to use a memory card, put the memory card in my printer and it transfers them over pretty quick. Your new camera probably came with a little cord the plugs into the front of your CPU. In most cases, you plug it in, turn on the camera and a picture wizard will come up and walk you through it> If all else fails, read the dang book that comes with it....but, I always try everything else first and then have Glen read the book
