the house is too quiet without your little wheezing
and the click click of your old cat claws on the floor
you cheated death many times, arriving here some years ago sick and nearly dead, you and your kittens
nearly died several times after that
poor feet all crippled with arthritis but thanks to medicine you walked and climbed and played
lungs stiff with calcium deposits, every one of your bronchial tubes showed up on the x-ray like a fine bone
but you kept going
then you crashed, finally too stiff inside to breathe? i don't know. no amount of medication or inhalers helped.
i coudln't stand to see you heave with each breath, clealry in pain.
the pain meds made you comfy. at least i could do that for you, still.
and one final thing i could do...
you slipped away easily, even before you had the full dose.

some cats are extra special and you were definitely one of them.
no one knows how old you were, somewhere around 17 we think.

survived by her son Nectarine, who was a sickly kitten but has grown to a beautiful healthy boy.
