Goodbye, Shamash

A friend had agreed to loan me the deposit needed for Shamash's surgery on monday, I went to pick him up from my vet and when they went back to get him they found he had died :(

they think his heart gave out.
he had a hernia of the diaphram and his stomach had moved into his chest cavity. Some animals, including cats, can live for months with this condition.

I am beyond sad. Thi was something that could have been fixed, if only I had been able to make the appointment sooner, but they insisted on $600 down and I didn't have it and didn't know who to ask and when someone offered who ever would have guessed we had so little time.

He joined our house in late January, named for the Babylonian Sun God, he ws a happy ray of sushine we will always miss.

he never picked a fight
he always had smiles, headbonks, and purrs
the thing he loved the best was to have his belly rubbed.

i am told he was in good spirits this morning, so at least he wasn't scared and sad.

this has been a AWFUL week :(

I am so sorry Bendy. The Bridge has quite a crowd now. My deepest sympathies to you and your mama.

Oh my goodness...I don't know how you do it..I am not brave enough to put myself in that position...you gave those babies love and security before their journey to the Bridge. Sending hugs and many, many prayers to all of you.

Love,

i don't think of what i do as brave or strong
i have a compulsive need to care for these cats, to invest myself as much as possible in them.
Without intense emotion, I feel empty and life seems very pale. The care they require, the strong bonds they and I form together, all keep my life vibrant. but nothing good comes free, there is no good without bad, and the bad is at least equal and sometimes, i think, greater than the good.
So i cry my eyes out, do what i feel i must to honor my babies when they have pased, and invest myself in another.

The price of tihs past week has been that all other areas of my life are a complete shambles. work is behind, paying bills is behind, cleaning is behind. but it can catch up, all those things will be ok (with a few late fees) and what matters most is that i have said goodbye to my kids and kept on caring for the ones still here.
