Luxating Patellas NEED HELP

Post by my4turtles »

I have a 13 month old Maltipoo who the vet say’s has 'luxating patellas' at grade 3.5 to 4 on both back legs. I have noticed her limp on her back left leg on and off for the last couple of months but it was very rare but it has started to get more frequent. I was thinking it was due to when she slipped when running around the pool. When she does limp its maybe 10 - 15 sec every time and when I give her a bath I can lift her back leg to wash it and I can fill the back leg slip out of place. I would like to get feed back from anyone, The vet says it would be $2400 for the surgery . I have no problem paying for it but would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this

I have a cat who had sx for a luxating patella and FHO about 6 years ago. She was about the age of your dog at the time. Given her age and if your vet is recommending it I would go ahead with it. Be prepared for the rehab and months of limited physical activity post op. Diana

The vet told me that its not needed at this time however the sooner the better so i was kinda confused on that... So thats why i wanted to hear from others i want to do what us best for her. He never told me anything about rehab and months of limited physical activity post op he made it seem like it would be so easy for her after. I wiah they would be just honest with me so i would know what to expect with her

And maybe there isn't rehab and limited physical activity for the luxating patellas only---I don't know. Raven also had the FHO for her hip so possibly that was all it was for. Possibly he is saying that it may get worse but it is not at the point yet. It may be helpful if you consult with an ortho specialist. Diana
