Advice Needed on Type of Dog Cart to Purchase

Post by Dawn »

Our German Shepard/Black Lab Mix, Simon, has had both his hind ACLs replaced. However, he has never fully recovered. Simon cannot walk or run long distances and is unable to go with me when I take our other dog for long excursions. He used to be my running & skiing partner and I know he misses the excercise and joys of being in the woods with me. My husband & I are looking to purchase a cart for Simon. We want a cart that is comfortable for at least 1-2 hours, one that allows him to still walk with his hind legs, has the ability to traverse dirt trails, and is able to handle some snow--we live in the north and get 250+ inches of snow each year. I would appreciate any advice or comments from people who have tried the carts. There are so many different types & I am unsure how to decipher which cart would be the best for our poor sad Simon. Please help! Thank you.

Others will be along to tell you about specific brands, but there are some things to consider. Most big-dog carts will have big wheels and will be fine on rough terrain, but only a few offer the addition of skis if you want them. You'll probably want a 2-wheeled cart with walking option, since that seems important to you. Another consideration is whether or not any manufacturers are nearby; it can make a world of difference to have him measured there, by them, if possible.

Hi and Welcome~
My dog is paralyzed from IVDD and is small, but the maker Eddie's carts makes carts for dogs of ALL sizes. The cart is very simple to use and Oscar took to it very quickly.
I have been VERY please with it.
