Please help if you can

Post by goldenlover »

We have incurred excessive costs in veterinary care for our beloved golden boy. He had to have a leg amputation and now needs treatment for cancer. The doctors are hopeful about a significant amount of additional life for him if he can get treatment, but we can't afford it. If anyone can help or knows anyone who would be willing to help, please pass his story and the donation information along.

These days we are all looking for ways to save money. You have an opportunity to do just that and help someone at the same time. We are trying to raise money to save oue dog’s life. Our dog broke his leg and needed surgery. During the surgery, an odd spot was found on the bone and later it was determined to be bone cancer. Our dog already had a condition called lar par which involves a weakening of the throat muscles and impacts breathing. The lar par was getting worse, and we were told that very soon he would need surgery for that too. We decided to get a second opinion regarding how to deal with the cancer. The night we brought our baby home from the hospital after having had the leg surgery he was not breathing properly. We knew it was more than the lar par as he had been managing ok before all of this. We rushed him to the specialty place where we were planning to take him for the second opinion. He needed to be put on oxygen. It turned out he had developed aspiration pneumonia and ended up staying in the hospital. He needed a lot of care. Three days later he was still at the 2nd hospital. We saw the oncologist who told us that our dog’s leg would never heal properly from the surgery because of the cancer being at the site of the break and at that point the incision had become infected. He also told us that if we did nothing, our golden boy would die in days to weeks. This is a dog who still loves walks, still has spunky days, and still enjoys the dog park. He loves people, has always been strong and full of life. He is nowhere near death. The vet told us about the options for saving our guy’s life. His best bet was amputation of the leg, clearing up the pneumonia, and cancer treatment. We can’t let our baby die. We told the vet to do the amputation because it was our guy’s best chance. He has a lot of recovery ahead of him, and we now have to figure out how to deal with the chemotherapy and the likely need for the surgery for his lar par condition. He has looked better and better each day, and the doctors have been pleased with his progress. They agree that from everything they can see he is a dog with a lot of life left in him. He is a fighter. Of course all of this is incredibly costly, and we don’t have the finances to deal with all of this. It is so hard to hear that he could have significantly more time but that we can’t cover the costs. We are asking people to consider making a tax deductible donation to assist with the vet bills. We are working with an organization that helps animals and animal owners. They have set up a program for our golden, Barnaby. Please consider making a donation. This is a good way to reduce your taxable income and help an animal in need. After all who wouldn’t want to reduce their taxes?
Whatever you can do will help, even if it is 5 or 10 dollars. The organization will send you verification for your taxes so that you have proof of your contribution. TIMING IS OF THE ESSENCE though because the vet won’t wait long for payment for fees already incurred, and cancer treatments need to begin. Also it will take longer for checks to arrive from the east coast. Checks should be made out to R.U.F.F. and need to have the following printed on them: “For Valerie R. for Barnaby.” Send checks to:

R.U.F.F.
P.O. Box 1140
Laguna Beach, CA 92652
For Barnaby R.

Include your name and address so they can send you a receipt for your taxes. Remember, you need to ensure that you write the notation about Barnaby. Otherwise, the money will not be directed for his care. RUFF is a non profit organization, and their FEIN is 33-0382233. Thank you for considering a contribution. We are pleased that we can offer you a chance to reduce your taxes while doing something positive for Barnaby at the same time.
