I'd like to suggest, since this is a large dog, a German shepherd, you may do better having him in a circular baby fence instead of a crate once he has the surgery. I picture you leaning over and reaching into the crate to pull him out while his hip is sore from surgery and he can't help much, it may be difficult. With a baby fence or x-pen, you can open the fence and walk in, and are not crowded while trying to lift him.

When I talked to them this morning they said they have not sedated him even once! He is leaving the incision alone, so they have not needed one of those collar things... Here is the email from the vet:
Dear Ms. Bartay,
Jager seems to be doing well during his stay here. He goes outside and spends a lot of time just watching the other animals in the hospital. He has been a PERFECT patient and we REALLY enjoy having him stay with us!!! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

I am so proud of the way he is putting weight on it already. Surgery was just 2 days ago.

Today is the first day I've gone back to work. He cried and barked when I left. It was hard. My husband just called and said he had his first BM since he came home. I was going to call the vet and ask about that today. I have to call and make appts for the staple removal and for the 8 wk checkup.
I miss him already

That's a great picture to remember the rest of your life. He looks great. Is he wearing some kind of harness? I don't recognize it. I am still voting with the others. :)

He has such an expressive and sweet face. It sounds as though you have found the perfect vet and staff. They really seem to care and that means everything. Voting everyday, fingers and paws crossed for you!
