March 17 made 8 years, a tribute to Leggy Legume
how fitting that Calypso should find us now...
when we first met Legume in June of '01 he was a little thing, but already tolerant of
mom's experiments to keep him clean
His tail was dead and had to come off.
He never missed it, or even bothered the bandage on his stub.
Here he is checking out the cage mom set up for him, I'm inspecting it too.
despite all his problems, he kept bouncing back.
after major surgery he wanted belly rubs.
he didn't even mind the e-collar, instead he found ways to use it.
he carried toys in it, he swatted kitties out of the way with it,
he used it to cover food dishes so no one else could eat his food.
he got along with everyone, joining in the fun and getting quite wild at times!
When he had a urinary catheter, he was so active that he had to wear
clothes to protect it, otherwise it got caught on things.
He didn't even mind getting dressed. One of the vet techs told mom that
she went to give Legume a bath, undressed him, and he stomped over and
put his feet in his clothes! (he spent the day at the vet when mom was at work
so he could have his catheter drained)
Mom loved his 'bug eyed' happy, excited, I'm playin' face
But despite his good nature, his energy, his love of everything,
he could not shake the infection which had taken hold of his bladder
and caused it to become extremely thick. He began developing
neurological problems, and megacolon, too. We had tried everything, the vets were
out of ideas.
We had to say goodbye.
Mom held him as he was given the injection. He licked her nose, then was gone.
Leggy Leggy Legume,
mama will always love you.

The carrying toys in his e-collar made me laugh. The picture that popped into my head was priceless. What a beautiful fur-kid. Thank you for sharing his story.
