archive.org saves pages instantly

Post by CarolC »

This is new to me. I think I noticed the link before but didn't try it, but :wow:

I wanted to see if an article about a certain author had been saved in the archive.org Wayback Machine, meaning even if the original website that posted the article someday removes it, it will still be accessible on archive.org. When I plugged the url of the article into the Wayback Machine, it said the article was not saved but I could click a button, so I did. It saved it instantly! Woohoo!

This is SOOOOOO important for some of the excellent personal webpages people make about their handicapped pets, that contain info and photos you won't find anywhere else, but unfortunately too often these valuable webpages are taken down after a few years. Many times I have gone back to give someone a link to a one-and-only webpage on some-unusual-disability, only to find it gone. If it's in archive.org, then we can still give it to someone who is dealing with the exact same thing and there's no info anywhere. Anytime we see something like that, we need to plug it into the Wayback Machine and get it saved if it isn't already.

Thank goodness for archive.org!
