Mom took RedBeans and Rice to the vet yesterday (good news)

He had a wierd oozing spot on his head, appeared about 2.5 weeks ago. mom had cleaned it up, thought it was ringworm infected from scratching, but it still wasn't healed despite antifungal cream and peroxide. he is on baytril for a kidney infection so mom thought it should be healed by now.

Well the vet stared at RedBeans and said "This is an 89 model?' mom said 'yep! he is, he is a kindey failure cat and hyperthyroid too."

mom explained how often he gots fluids & the dose of thyroid meds and that he eats 2 jars of a babyfood and a handful of dry kidney food a day, with soem pedialyte.

the vet looked him over really really well and said "This is the best lookng ancient cat I've ever seen. His fur is soft, in fact his coat looks great, his skin looks great! I"ve never seen a kindey cat whose coat wasn't dry!"

his heart sounded fine
he still has all his teeth, and not much tarter.

mom was so pleased.
The vet said that the spot on his head just was taking a long time to heal because his is very old and wasn't a big worry. She did the ringworm light test and it did not glow.

then she said that she wasn't going to charge mom for the visit since he looked so good. The vet has heard about him, mom has talked with her at length actually about this cat, but she hadn't met him yet.

A year ago when RedBeans and Rice came to mom's friend's house (from her brother whose wife is awful) he had looked like he might last a month. He wasn't getting any fluids, he was stressed by the idiot wife. He was horribly skinny and his coat was dull and he didn't groom. but wow could he purr.
Mom's friend always has mom help with the old cats she takes in.
