Mysti abdominal sickness part2 cont.Monday

Post by petJill13.8 »

Hi -- After 1 week of Simplicef 100mg, Mysti's "rear end" licking has decreased but not gone.
Vet visit today brought a mixed report. The vaginal area swelling has improved and the discharge is less. A digital vaginal exam found multiple lumps/tumors(?) in area not easy to reach. She will go in Monday for light sedation and an ultrasound with biopsy if possible. The breast lumps /hard granules will not be addressed at this time. She will be an unhappy camper on Monday!
It would be beneficial to know the extent of what we are dealing with. However how much treatment should a senior citizen dog (10 +years) be put through? She does not act sickly now ... good eating, drinking, good stamina on walks, and no pain when petted. She is laid back, calm, and gentle and the best rescue pet we could ask for!! The last 9 months have been great. I'm not sure how much more major surgery we should put her through... although she has held up well so far ... Aug.08 "softball tumor removed, spleenectomy and spaying, Oct.08 4 part mastectomy.
After Monday we will see what our options are, and then have some hard decisions to make. Any feed back from owners with similar problems would be appreciated. Will post more next week. Thanks. Mysti's Mom [Mysti Walk please.JPG[/attachment]

Update Monday 4/20/09
Mysti went in at 9:30 am and came home at 2:30 pm and slept till 5 pm.
Ultrasound went well and we now know that some parts of her are healthy ... lungs are fine, kidney ok and bladder ok. It was hard to get to the lumps/bumps but a biopsy was sent off. So we wait for the results and then weigh our options. She has bloody discharge now and will remain on Simplicef 100mg for awhile longer. I am so glad I kept all the "old rug covers" I had made for our previous dog Jill (who had mobility problems with bleeding paws) since they all came out today! Although she was "spaced out " for quite awhile, she seems more comfortable after she ate. A restful nights should do her good. Will update again after lab report is received. Thanks for the email and the info of vaginal tumors

It's encouraging to find that numerous vaginal tumors are benign and interesting that Boxers have a breed predisposition to certain tumors.

Sending prayers from Georgia for improvement and the right decisions for your Mysti. What a sweet and strong girl she is and how fortunate that she is with you now.
