he didn't want to but Bernard ate today

Post by Bendy Kitty »

Bernard is a 20 yr old cat who was dropped off at a kill shleter. He came to live with us Thursday and has't been eating. he had stopped eating at the shelter and developed a URI. once here he got inectible penicillin which cleared up the URI, he has gotte fluids several times too. but he won't eat.

He started meowing when mom opened a can for smokey, but he didn't want to come out form under the couch & hadn't touched teh food mom had left there for him earlier.

so, she pulled him out form under the couch & patted and loved on him, he prrrrrred.
she opeend a can of salmon fancy feast. he perked his ears but woudln't eat.

so she finger fed him most of the can. he only tried to spit out the first couple mouthfuls. He never tried to bite (and his teeth are in great shape, btw) never squirmed. when he was most of the way through the can he started turning his head away so mom said that was enough for now. maybe it'll get him eating on his own. he is going to get a B-vitie shot tonite with some fluids. mom told him he is not allowed to starve himself! he does not seem at all congested any more. we think he is veryveyr stressed. we have some tuna flavored calming treats for cats somewhere, need to find them. He was still well hyrdated, so that is good. he has been drinking.

silly boy. please send "eat" thoughts his way!!!!

My husband just reminded me about butter or catfood smeared on paws.
Whenever we moved to a new home with our cats, that is the very first thing we would do to introduce them to their new home. Do you think Bernard might fall for that. He is so beautiful and certainly does not look 20 years old.

we've never had much luck smearing food onto paws, it seems to either get flicked everywhere or the cat just has very dirty paws & legs for awhile.

His fur looks great if he is really 20. Did you check his teeth? No signs of kidney failure by looking at fur.

Got any Science A/D cat food? Works here.
