I need help with my old lab. He is now really old and also has arthritis and issues in maintaining grip. My hardwood floor is made of wood, and every time he loses his balance, I get a new scratch mark on my floor. Is there any way to maintain his grip...

Boots with traction are one option.

Show Foot spray was developed to spray on the feet of show dogs so they wouldn't slip on the floor of the show ring.

Dr. Buzby's Toe Grips were recommended by my dog's physical therapist. Here is a review she did.

A lot of people just put down carpet runners and mats. I did that for my senior golden retriever. I like the kind that are rubber backed and have a rubber border around the edges, like a store entrance mat. They also hose clean. We had oak parquet floors and they stayed in place. An example is shown here, click picture to enlarge.

You may also want to dremel his nails.
