Terry the Corgi
As you may have seen, on Monday I adopted Terry, the neglected Corgi mentioned in the urgent section of the board. He is a great little dog, remarkably fast and difficult to apprehend! He has fitted right in with my other dogs, using his size to his advantage, weaving underneath them to push to the front of the line for food, to go out etc!
Terry has some significant health problems (heartworms, anemia, elevated liver enzymes and ulcers on his feet that are so deep you can see his bones), but nothing that shouldn't be treatable given time.
My biggest need at the moment is a name - Terry just doesn't fit him, plus he needs a new name for a new life I've been thinking of a few names and would like your input.
IORWERTH - means Lord in Welsh
GLWYS (Glous) - means fair or holy in Welsh
BLEDDYN (blethin) - means wolf in Welsh
DEEOHGEE - I've just always wanted to call a dog this, although don't know that it fits a Corgi
GIZMO - He really looks like a gremlin
MUTTLEY - remember Dastardly and Muttley? So Terry will sit with his back to me ... I move to go pick him up and when I can almost reach him he scuttles forward a few feet, turns round and I swear he grins and makes that chuckle/laugh that Muttley did!

Re: Terry the Corgi
This is hard! What if you just switch it to Teddy since he's used to Terry? Otherwise I'd vote for Muttley because an M fits him, but I'm still thinking. (But that would make you Dastardly!) Does he respond to any of them when spoken? OK, I voted for Muttley but I may change it...
Re: Terry the Corgi
Lots of corgis get called things like Gizmo.
Bleddyn would be good in meaning but I don't like the name and it would be mispronounced all the time.
How about Cadell: Little Battle
Madoc: Little fortunate one

Re: Terry the Corgi
I like Bobbie's "Madoc", he is fortunate (YOU saved him) & little...It is an "M" name that Carol thinks would suit him. Maybe 'Madoc Muttley', as a tribute to his chuckle. We all have a 'middle' name, so can he. My gray 3 leg kitty is 'John Bell Hood' after the Confederate that lost an arm & leg (I think) in the Civil War. He insisted on being strapped to his saddle to lead his men anyway, my guy has that mentality...
Thanks for saving him, I am so glad he is in good hands!

Re: Terry the Corgi
I'm still on the fence about a name, I like Madoc but Terry seems to be deciding on his own. I have called several different names to him and the only one he has thus responded to is Teddy (not even Terry).

Re: Terry the Corgi
Teddy is cute, I had a Teddy.
My dogs do that, I always want to change the names but can't change them very far at all. Teddy stayed Teddy which was his name when I got him. Reba became Abby. Janine stayed Janine, Jacko became Jack. Candy stayed Candy.
I'm eager to see a full-body photo of him from the side as I have my doubts there is anything in the "mix" except corgi with the fluff factor. Hard to tell in the photos.

Re: Terry the Corgi
You think he'll stay still long enough to get photos ... LOL.... I have to say that I have found that the cart we have is way too big. Three times today terry has got himself caught up either on the ramp or in the bushes and each time he has simply walked out of the cart. I think it is because it is 8.5" wide and he measures 6.5" so has enough "wiggle room".
I have to say that Terry is not phased in the least. He'll be at the back door waiting to be let in or happily pulling himself round the yard, within 30 seconds of my seeing him in the cart. At least his legs are bandaged and protected, but this shows me I need to get him a smaller cart.

I have an Eddies that is 7 at the shoulder and 6 at the hip- would that fit him? I might have a Doggon small enough, too, have to check that one.

I just love hearing about the spunk he has! What a little character! I like Mutlley for all the same reasons, Teddy does fit him and another name I just love is Gandalph (pronounced Gandolph). Gandalph was a wizard in Lord of the Rings.

Terry is 6.5" at the shoulder and only 5" at the hip. His fluffiness hides how wasted he is.Bobbie wrote:I have an Eddies that is 7 at the shoulder and 6 at the hip- would that fit him? I might have a Doggon small enough, too, have to check that one.
