Hi, glad you are here. Yes, he can still have a good life even if he remains incontinent. Not pooping after 3 days is really not surprising. It could be a combination of lack of exercise, possibly medications such as pain medication, and the fact that he does not want to soil his bed. If you are able to lift him (I cannot tell what size of terrier he is, it could be anything from a Yorkie to a pitbull, very different sizes) you could carry him out to the grass and see if he will go lying in the grass. You could ask the vet for some lactulose syrup, it is a stool softener that is not habit forming and safe to use (even long term if needed). In addition, here is an article with ways to help stimulate a dog to eliminate. I would wait until maybe the 4th or 5th day to do that, though, as he may go on his own.

On the bedwetting, you have 2 issues. One is keeping him clean and dry, which is easy with a male dog, just keep him in malewraps. A dog can even wear a malewrap 24/7 if needed. A malewrap (also called belly band or male doggy diaper) is a belt that goes around the waist and fastens with velcro. Inside you stick an absorbent pad (like Poise) and the belt holds the pad over the male area so your dog and his bed will stay dry. Malewraps are your friend.

The other issue is, you need to determine if he is completely emptying his bladder with the leaking. The only way to know is to feel his abdomen and see if his bladder is empty, or do an ultrasound. If his bladder is merely overflowing, then it is not emptying completely. In that case you need to express his bladder, which means you squeeze his abdomen and he urinates. If the leaking is emptying him, then you don't need to do it, but if he is retaining some urine it will make him susceptible to a urinary tract infection, so expressing his bladder will be important to keep his bladder healthy. The vet should show you how to do this. Here are some videos that demonstrate it. I hope this helps.

:whale: I wouldn't PTS him at this point. You can express poop; in fact, my Buddy would always poop, if he had to, before the pee came out. Carol posted LOADS of info, so I know it'll take you a while to work through it all, but it's worth it!
