I wanted to give everyone an update on how Angel is doing. Remember he is the Shih Tzu that was listed on this site in early June. He was at Animal Control in Miami and I adopted him and he finally made it to Kansas.
Three weeks ago, Angel saw a specialist who placed him on Prednisone and said that his paralysis was related to a disc problem. Well, Angel is walking now. He is still unsteady but walks independently in the house and I towel walk him in the yard. He is improving daily.
He is receiving hydrotherapy daily and is swimming for 18 minutes. Plus, he receives ROM 3x a day.
He has made such amazing progress. When I initially adopted him, I thought he would be paralyzed for life and be incontinent.
I just wanted to encourage people to not give up on their "Furry Kids". With medical assistance as well as therapy and lots of owner committment you may be amazed at the progress they can make. Pets have such a strong will to survive and recover. /Jean

Amazing!! I'm so pleased to hear he's making progress. If I remember correctly, wasn't he scheduled to be put down because of his paralysis? What a little miracle pup!!!

Angel = Miracle
Jean, that is incredible! You are amazing, Angel is wonderful and this whole story needs to be published. How bout you write a story from Angel's POV, don't put it in your local paper, because then you cant put it in READERS DIGEST!
This is so inspirational. You can help others when despair slams them, fatique knocks their legs out and give them hope for the future.
I love this!

I have followed this story from the beginning and I am soooo happy for you and Angel. Just another testament to the power of faith, love and perserverance. 100% inspiration from Angel and her angel mom!

Agree!
An article in the local newspaper, or send one to the Miami newspaper in the shelter area where little Angel was scheduled to be PTS. It would be a great follow up after his miraculous rescue that included many volunteers, and the transportation to your state.
They need to know that these little guys can get better.

Angel's story could in fact save lives - making him a TRUE ANGEL! Congratulations to you both!
Re: Other: Angel is walking
Thanks everyone. What is so unique about Angel is that I found him right here on my favorite web site and bb Handicapped Pets.
I feel like I am the lucky one. He has been such a blessing to our family./Jean

Jean,
We think that Angel is the lucky one! You found him, fell in love with him, and then saved the little guy.
I still think you should at least send a pic of him (standing/walking) to the shelter where he was scheduled to be PTS.
You've got a wonderful pet family. There's always room for one more, isn't there?

Dianne,
I will send the shelter a picture of Angel. There are just so many people to thank. I just sent off the THANK YOU note to the lady in Florida who donated her little dog's wheelchair to Angel. It was so nice of her. However, it is way to short for Angel with him being a long bodied Shih Tzu. I should see about donating it to someone. I'll have to look into that.
Angel is pretty independent in the house although, he still has a tendency to wobble back and forth and still scoots around some.
Outside I still towel walk him because of the uneven terrain which makes him unsteady on his feet. Plus, when he goes to raise his leg (Which he just started last week *GRIN*) and squat he would fall over without the towel. I kinda wonder about getting him a wheelchair just so he could be more independent in the yard. Do they make and rent wheelchairs that enable the dog to weight bear on all four limbs? He just needs the wheelchair for balance.
In regards to your question about adopting more pups. There just isn't anymore room at the inn. Between Angel, my paralyzed cat Jaime and those with other disablilities they keep me VERY BUSY. Although, I was really questioning that decision when I saw the email for the eight small dogs that were sent to me from Miami. I am on their email list now. It just breaks my heart. VSF (FYI Critters listed them in the rescue area.)
Dianne thank you for your interest in Angel. I just can't imagine what I would have missed if I hadn't adopted him. Plus, what a waste of a good little doggy. But, then, there are hundreds more everyday that are euthanized that are ever bit as deserving. SIGH /Jean
