incontinence products for large dogs

My female GSD with Cauda Equina Syndrome has just become incontinent and I am looking into ways to deal with the accidents in the house. Can anyone offer suggestions on dog diapers, piddle pads, etc? Commercially made dog diapers are not large enough. She weighs 85 lbs. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Lots of folks use the depends human products. Also, get a dollar store table cloth and cover with a sheet if you wish, to protect floors. You toss in wash.

XX-Large fits 55-70 lbs and 25"-36" waists. Mine has most of her weight in the front so I'm hoping these will work

. Each tablet contains antimicrobial properties to improve bladder function while protecting the urinary tract.
That sounds like a great product. Mine has been getting Pronin. I'll ask to see if this might be better for her.

DEPEND BELTED SHIELDS
Extra absorbency, 30 count

My dog is 85 pounds.

They come with two sets of velcro tabs. They were kind of long so I just did two quick stitches to each tab on the sewing machine to make them work. It's amazing how much urine they hold and they don't leak. I can't believe how happy I am that these work!

Yes, that's the product!

The part 2 (the strap) needs to be shortened. I just fold the strap over (instead of the strap being flat, it's the shape of a flattened "S") and run the machine across the two sides to make it the right length. I did that to both of the straps. It takes about 15 seconds!

I had a pair of XL that I previously ordered (I mentioned them higher in the thread) and I used those as a guide as to where to put the tail hole. Probably about 1/4 to maybe 1/3 of the way down the diaper? I just unfold the Depends, put in on my knee (it's just easier than trying to make the depends lay flat), put the template (the XL I previously ordered) over the depend, find where I should make the hole, grab the area where I should make the hold, cut a half circle and it's done. It sounds complicated, but it goes very quickly.

The Depends are nice because they don't leave fluff all over like some do and they are unbelievably absorbanent with no leakage. She wears a Helpemup harness http://www.helpemup.com/ which helps to hold them in place. SHe doesn't mind them at all.

Caileigh is 85 pounds I hope this is of help to someone else. It sure made things MUCH easier.

Perfect. VELCRO straps are really the important part. I had to pick up a pair of the button straps and they failed miserably!

Hello, I know this question is from a while back but I came across it today and thought I would add what has worked for me. My lab, Will, who was 110lbs, was diagnosed with FCE about 2 1/2 months ago. Unfortunately, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down last night. However, over the last two months I have experimented a lot with products for larger dogs. Below are some the things that I used:

Male Wrap (sold locally @ Pet Food Center) XXL up to 120 lbs. This worked very well.

At Wal-Mart in the ice-pack section, they have an ice pack that comes with a sleeve (purple) with two velcro straps. I removed the ice pack and inserted two male guards into the pouch.

I also used the button depends with extra mail guards placed inside.

With all of these, I used the ShamWow's off of the informational on tv (https://www.shamwow.com/ver4/index.asp). They absorb 51 times their weight and they were wonderful for absorptions. You don't have to order them off tv. Most Walmarts & CVS have them too.

I also began using crib mattress pads, which hold upto 8 cups of liquid. They also make adult sized washable mattress pads for around $10 at Walmart.

Most nights I used a combination of the male wrap, with 2 male guards inserted with a shamwow. Under him I would place the mattress pad, in case he leaked.

He drank a lot, so he usually leaked but these products greatly helped. Also, in the depends section, they had antiseptic perineal cleanser which I used in conjunction with baby powder to keep his belly from getting red. Also, they have adult sized wipes that are great and quite inexpensive.

For me, Will's incontinence was the biggest struggle. I underestimated how hard caring for a large disabled dog would be. I found a bed I was planning on ordering called the Sleepee Bed (http://www.handicappedpets.biz/xcart/sl ... -pets.html). The concept looks amazing. A bit pricey but what I have found is that most things are.

I have decided to pay it forward to someone else and give all of Will's supplies to someone else who is struggling with the same type of situation that he did. If you could use his items, please let me know. I have 3 washable diapers, a lot of mattress pads, a bottoms-up leash (that he was never able to use) (http://www.bottomsupleash.com/?gclid=CL ... Ggod6hQbDg), almost a full package of male guards & several sprays and cleansers.

My 13 year old 80lb GSD has started being incontinent of stool. Could I just use the water bottle spray method when we are outside on a bathroom trip? He needs help with ambulating and wears a *walk a bout* so it will be tricky to hold him up at the same time and spray or try some of the other techniques mentioned. Is there a *preferred* method for our large dogs who can stand? Our temperatures are very cold and I am concerned with spraying water on him outside although we are not outside for too long a time.

Last evening he was sleeping. I saw his tail move a bit, he woke up and looked back and I noticed he had pooped. It did not seem like he was aware he had to go as he usually starts getting up and gets antsy. The other day he went shortly after getting back in the house and another episode was shortly after getting into the car (what a mess that was). Both times he had relieved himself of urine and he had plenty of time to finish the job.

He had back surgery for a disk problem last spring and has slowly recovered from complete paralysis post op to and walking with assist. He is continent of urine. He was walking unassisted prior to surgery.
