Most absorbant pads?

Post by Bobbie »

I use half a Costco Poise pad for Candy, but he just leaks a bit when overfull. Now I need something to go under a male wrap for Merlin. Merlin can completely soak a large Poise pad in one pee (he is on meds that make him thirsty.) Does anyone know anything about twice as absorbent as the big Poise pads at Costco?

Have you tried the long strip-like diapers for humans? I bet they could hold at least 2 pees, and maybe 3!

I'm not sure what you mean. I've only seen the ones with elastic- we tried a kids one (size 6) and it doesn't absorb fast enough (absorbs lots but not at the rate he pees.) The Poise pad works but just for one pee and then if he goes again he'll soak everything. Most of the adult stuff is narrow in the center which is where he needs the absorbancy.

No, can't express, he has full muscle tone, and he pees just fine- he just drinks a lot and pees a lot because of his meds. If I were here to change the Poise pad one would work, but it won't hold two pees.

I found this site http://www.nationalincontinence.com/ where I could order a sample pack of six men's pads for $6.95, inc. shipping, so I did that. That should save a lot of trial and error and hopefully I'll find something that will work well.

Yes, the strip kind usually have elastic straps to hold them on human hips. The rate of pee is a good point...

Bobbie, if you want to take a measuring cup and pour water into your Costco and see how many cups it will absorb, I could do the same with a Serenity Ultimate and let you know if it is any better.

For what it's worth, I tried doubling the pad as below and it did nothing, one soaked completely and the other stayed dry. I assume they have sidewalls on them.

I also tried getting a Wal-Mart Parent's Choice children's diaper (the brand reported most absorbent on this board) and laying it flat into a male wrap but it did not work, there is no adhesive on the back and I hoped it would stay in place but no.

Then I spent a lot of money (like $25 a package plus shipping) special ordering some Walgreen's adult overnight pads because they were supposed to be the most absorbent thing they carried, and again no adhesive.

I'd like to know how your trial pads work out. :)

I know I could test them- but not without buying them! That's why I thought trying a sample pack would be a good idea. I also ordered a sample (I think Serenity) from another site. (Free.) The next thing is going to be how to keep them on but I have had good luck with the Simple Solution male wraps so may just order a size up for Merlin (he won't fit Candy's.)

When my Doc (55 lb male Pit Bull) was incontinent two years ago we had a very hard time finding a diaper that could contain a full void.

We ended up using the Simple Solution diaper, lined with the absorbent, middle section of an adult Depends diaper. We just cut out the middle and placed it in the diaper. Much more effective (and cheaper) than buying the liners that are designed for the dog diapers.

I may have to do something like that. He can overflow a regular largest-size Poise pad. I'll see when the other pads come whether anything is absorbent enough. I've heard of doing the Depends and cutting off the elastic and might have to do that. They also sell doublers for diapers and pads- basically a flow-through piece you put on top of the other diaper.

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of a pad to put under a male wrap for a 13lb doxin? I have been using the always long super pads, but they really aren"t absorbent enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Poise pad they sell at Costco works for most corgis- its their biggest one and I cut it in half for Candy. It just doesn't work for Merlin because he drinks so much water.

Update: First, the link for the sample pads: They say they will send six kinds, they sent four kinds. I emailed and have not yet received an answer to my complaint about that.

The upside: one of the four kinds seems to work much better than Poise: Prevail Male Guards are wider, and more absorbent. I ordered some more from Amazon (as I wouldn't order from that company unless they make good on their sample deal) and discovered a Subscribe and Save deal that got me 15% off and free shipping for signing up for repeat orders (I can cancel any time but it sounds like a good idea once I figure out the right interval.)

I also ordered some Attends booster pads which go on top and increase the amount of liquid absorbed. I'll report on those when I get them.

Update:

The Booster pads work great- I've been using a Huggies overnight diaper, which tends not to lie flat, and putting the booster pad on it actually gives it better shape for the wrap. I use a very loose Pupster diaper wrap, with the Huggies Overnight diaper (the Prevail hasn't come yet) and then the booster pad. Easily handles all day or overnight and the looseness means the wet part doesn't stay in contact with him much. (Remember Merlin has dilute urine so he doesn't get scalded from having a diaper on too long.)
