New Rescue Advice for Diapers

Post by cookank0104 »

We just rescued a four year old beagle mix who is (mostly) incontinent and paralyzed from the lower back down. He does seem to have some feeling, but his injuries are very new, and it's hard to tell. He was hit by a car and left in the backyard before being rescued, but he is the sweetest boy, and doing great in his new home and his new wheels! He's a little boy, only about 15 lbs, and his waist is barely 12 inches.

I've been researching the best washable diapers to use with pad inserts for him, and I was wondering if anyone has any specific brands or suggestions that have worked for male dogs. He had a minor surgery to lift his penis and allow him to urinate more regularly, so his shaft is higher than many male dogs, and diapers won't always cover him. We have him out of the diapers as much as possible, but since his shaft is exposed all the time, diapers offer some protection and coverage we would like to have. We looked into the bands, but since he drags, it can be difficult to keep these on him, and we want to cover his area to try and keep him safe and clean. We're so in love with our boy, and just want the best! So if anyone has any tips about which brands you can get in the US, in store or through Amazon, we'd love advice from the Veterans.

Many thanks!

I have not tried these but they should not drag off.

Happy Jack dog diapers

I imagine you could also attach his belly band to a standard chest harness using a clip, like they have done with the diaper in this photo of Liebchen

If he's a dragger, you can use a Drag Bag. http://www.handicappedpets.com/walkin-drag-bag It impedes walking, but it's ideal for non-walkers.

I tried Happy Jack, did not work at all. Try Peke A'Tsu rescue belly bands. They can make to order if you need extra wide and work great with pads. If you go to my book website below there is a link for products that has a direct link but also easily found by googling 911 belly bands.

I started cutting one long Poise pad in half and overlapping the halves on the belly band. Works great and has almost eliminated drips escaping.
