Diaper problems w/Pug

My senior Pug is having issues, mainly seems to be loosing his mind. Put him out to pee and he just wanders and wanders. Then will come in and pee. I've tried a few diapers, none fit right. His dillywacker sits almost behind his legs, so no diaper really actually covers it. Any thoughts? I'm currently trying a female incontinence underpants contraption, but of course, it doesn't fit right either. Thanks for any suggestions.

That is an excellent point because not all male dogs have their boy parts in the exact same place. Some are much closer to the ribs, others much closer to the tail like your dog. I would try a disposable baby diaper, I think you had the right idea. You can try it two ways, frontward and backward, with the tapes to the front or the tapes to the back. It was probably just one of those cases where it did not work exactly right the first time, but that is not surprising. How many of us find a pair of jeans that will fit with the first pair we try on? You probably need to be prepared for several more "misses" before you hit on the exact right fit. That may mean you end up with several packages of unused diapers where you tried one and it did not fit and and now you have the rest of the package sitting there that you can't use. Perhaps you can donate them to your local church or daycare? Or Goodwill. If you have any friends with babies in diapers, they might let you try one diaper so you don't have to buy a whole package.

If they are falling down there are a number of pretty simple fixes for that. One is to put him in a baby onesie. Or you can put him in a chest harness and use a variety of different clips (such as ironing board cover clips) to attach the diaper to the harness by way of a "suspender".

If he is experiencing doggy dementia, there is a medication (Anipryl) that helps, but it only works for some dogs and I was told it is expensive.

P.S. Here is one more link. I thought of them because they make a "squatty body" diaper, however it appears to be only for larger dogs like bulldogs. 45+ lbs so that does not help you. But they do also make custom diapers and they are clearly familiar with the squatty body concept, so here is the link.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I did not know such a thing existed! I'm going to try the Tinkle Trousers. I hope I ordered the right size. The breed chart listed one, but on measuring, it was smaller, so we shall see. If I'm not happy w/this, I'll try the Peekeepers next. I was a bit torn between the two, but liked the looser look of the TT better. I will be needing to take him to the vet come early summer, I will discuss his mental status then. He just seems to be falling apart VERY fast, since we put his Momma down. They were very bonded. I took him w/us so he would know what happened to her, though he didn't seem to really care at the time. But when we got home, boy howdy, one sad pup!

Have you tried a belly band-type thing for catching the pee, or is it that he's just too far down? Boy dogs have it better that they can use diaper-style stuff to catch poop and belly bands to catch pee--helps with UTIs to keep poop away from the urethra.

Yeah, belly bands don't work, his dillywacker is just too far down. I'm not concerned w/poop...it's firm and easy to pick up. Wait, check that...he picks it up himself, most of the time. He has always eaten his own poop, from day one. I've tried everything to break him of that too, but he just ain't real bright...but very sweet!
