What is a good dog food so that molly has harder poops

Post by kruzen55 »

molly poop is so soft and sometimes has like a mucousy casing on it. i've had her on Pet Smarts Nature Choice for sensitive stomach. it's chicken, rice and oats. it's also supposed to be good for bones and muscles. but her poop is so soft and it's really messy. buffy also eats it and it gives her diarreha a good part of the time.

someone please give me some advice on a good dog food for harder stools.
thanks

I THINK it stands for weight diet, but it's just a name by the Hill's brand. It has more fiber than regular food, and it can even help with diarrhea, believe it or not!

Susan,

I would add rice to Molly's food to firm up the feces if there is diarrhea. We normally feed Iams kibble, but sometimes add the rice to it.

My doxie has periodic pancreatitis, and has a muscosa coating on the feces at times.

If Molly also has "grainy", slimy BM's, or diarrhea, I would suspect pancreatitis. I've learned to *never feed table scraps to my dog*. When I see his BMs appear with pancreatitis symptoms again, I cook up chicken, rice, and occasionally throw a few carrots into the mix, and feed it for a few days. No salt. No seasonings. Never onions/garlic
(toxic).

California Natural is a good food. All 3 of my dogs are on it. They have less stool and it is a firmer stool too.

My dachshunds eat Purina Pro Plan. Their stool is hard, and they go 1-2 times daily.

My dogs do well on Dick Van Patten's Vegetarian dry dog food. Their stool is good and they are all healthy and love the taste.
