waterproof beds

Post by ssg »

I am looking for a recommendation for waterproof beds that are comfortable and will provide orthopedic comfort and support. The one I saw was for outside, and looked uncomfortable. I want him to be able to reposition him without getting stuck in the folds, per se. I tried lining his current bed, but he soiled it all the way through, and I can't wash the inside foam piece. I need it for my 75 pound german shepherd, Klaus.

Thanks so much.

Try googling inflatable pet beds. I just saw one somewhere (don't remember where) and thought it would be good for an incontinent dog. My own inflatable camp mattress is better than my bed!

Here's the kind of thing I was talking about:

Can you just replace the foam? You might cut an eggcrate mattress to fit, or get a chunk of foam from a sewing store. I have also washed foam; it just took FOREVER to dry.

Foam's a thought. I just can't envision it fitting inside the washing machine. I'd like something waterproof to prevent fluids from saturating into the foam piece and that would also have a cover which wicks the fluid away from the surface to keep his skin as dry as possible.

The Aero bed might not work, because the sides are a bit too high for him to slide himself into, should he ever drag himself out of it. So I think I need something a bit flatter.

Thank you for your great ideas and suggestions.

Get a dollar store table cloth, wrap around and cover w/fitted sheet. They both pop into the washer.

LOL. A front loader could probably handle it without shredding it. Next time you could put blue pee pads under the cover but on top of the foam.

I bought the orthopedic bed with a waterproof liner and an extra cover from Foster's and Smith. With freight, it came to $136.00 but I've gone through so many beds and foam that I think this will pay for itself during the rest of Riley's life. I would recommend it if it's in your budget. Otherwise, waterproof mattress pad covers wick the moisture away from your pet if you don't want to have them wear diapers all the time. Riley doesn't wear them to bed since he needs to air out so I used to cut the plastic from one mattress pad cover and fold it in two, then place another intact mattress pad cover beneath that. There didn't seem to be much moisture on the top layer that he slept on. Cover it with a sheet (flannel in winter) and you should be able to just wash the sheet each day and the covers once a week. I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me since Riley is only 25 lbs.
