Years ago I had a dachsund that lost the use of her back legs. The vet at that time suggested traction. I made a homemade sling with holes cut for her legs. I sewed it so that I could slip two dowel rods on the side to support the sling. I would put these over chair rungs to support the sling. The vet said to keep it so that her feet touched the ground but her weigh was supported by the sling. I would put her in this for a few hours a day. She fully regained total use of her legs. I am not sure if this would work for your dog since I am sure they have more modern ways now but I just thought I would share that it worked for her. I am not an expert in any shape or form.....just love animals.
