Pup is not sleeping at night (and neither are we!!) HELP!

Our furbaby had surgery about 1 month ago for IVDD. He has been home for 2 weeks now and we haven't slept a whole night since then. He had always slept on the bed with us, but now that he is paralyzed in the back legs we can't trust him to not jump off and hurt himself again. Therefore, we have to crate him at night.
He never liked being crated, even as a puppy. We tried to make the change as painless as possible and we bought him a playpen with a nice cushion. We put his food, water, bones and toys in there with him. He still HATES being in there and barks ALL night long.
We have also tried letting him sleep on the floor, but he whines there too.
We are desperate to get a good night sleep. Does any one have any suggestions for helping us all get some rest?
