How to clean fresh fecal (poop) stains on carpet

Post by CarolC »

This has been working so well, I just want to share it.

I have a quadriplegic dog who does his Number Two lying down. Usually I put him on a "potty towel" on the living room carpet to do it, but often he will end up off the towel because he can kick his hind feet. It is not unusual for him to drop a stool and then accidentally kick it in the process, and then we have a smear rubbed into the carpet where he kicked it (and I have to wash his paws).

After he's done, I pick up all the stools. Then I sprinkle baking soda on the stain marks. I take a Kleenex and rub the baking soda down into each stain mark, rubbing hard, and leave it. The next morning I run the vacuum cleaner over it and you can't tell it ever happened. Completely gone.

Our carpet is a very dense low pile office carpet that I bought with pets in mind. It is not shag or plush. I don't know if this would work on fluffy carpet.

Years ago I had a client's daughter who was a wizard at getting her mom's diarrhea out of the carpet. I can't remember what spray she used, but she'd grind it into the carpet with a washrag and her shoes.

Exactly. Grind it in. Only dummy here tried that with baking soda and left sneaker tread marks all over the house because the baking soda stuck to my shoe.  :haha:

Yeah, if you have to track something all over the house, baking soda is as good as anything.
