"One more thing--are you having trouble getting him in the car? My dog has fallen more than once trying to hop into the car. I drive a Saturn station wagon and I finally took the back seat out so he doesn't have to hop up so far. I put rugs where the seat was. It sounds unattractive but it actually looks very nice the way I did it. It also helps to park your car next to the curb and have him enter on the curb side, not the street side. If I try to get him into the car parked in the driveway or garage, he has farther to hop up. If I let him get in from the curb, he is about 8-9" higher up to begin with and he doesn't have to step up so far."

Well, re ramps and bannisters, seems I done em both!

The ramp was an outdoor, but you can easily convert to indoor folding by the simple remedy of hinges.
The link is somewhere ...

And as I have a "ladder" leading from downstairs to up and that daggone blindpup keeps going up and falling down when she panics, my cuz Christy gave her bannisters by the simple expedient of nailing lattice strips to the side of the "ladder" and gives the pups a sense of place. And keeps them from falling over the sides. I also have a piece at bottom of stairs as well as wallls and a hinged baby gate which any dog on the planet is capable of opening and pushing aside. So we cover all bases.
The map is the important thing. Domino will develop his and you will be astounded. No human being is capable of what a blindpup is capable of.

Re:are you having trouble getting him in the car?

Yes. Our wagon is a Saturn too. He cannot get into the back of the car unless he has help. Domino absolutely hates having help getting up. He'll stand there jumping like a bunny before he gives in. So we've been putting him in through the side door. And we do park along a curb.

He also has trouble getting on the couch. When Dave tries helping he growls. When I help its okay.

This is a dog who flew over a 4 foot fence (without touching it) the first day we brought him home and who used to climb over a 6 foot fence. He had a doggy friend next door that taught him this trick. His friend used to come over and they'd have a party in the house. We have a doggy door. Then the neighbor told us that Domino was coming over there for a visit.

Thank you for the link. Everything has been very helpful.
