Please Welcome Shadow, our new senior cat!

Post by Bendy Kitty »

Shadow is a bit more interesting than we thought.
He is not 15, he is 17, according to his records. Maybe the person said 15 because she didn't think anyone would believe 17. heck, when we took in Sam he was 19 and lived another year.
He is very very very unimpressed by the world. the car didn't phase him, the vet didn't phase him, getting blood drawn didn't warrant even an ear flick and he is sniffing around his new home just as casually as you please. He is friendly and has given mom many headbonks and responds to his name.

His tail has a series of kinks, there since birth. but what really surprised mom was his mouth. The owner said that his mouth was a little tender and he didn't always want to eat his dry food.
The vet looked at his mouth and said to mom "he has a hole!"
Mom stared at her, "a hole?"
"yes, look!"
there, in his palette, on the left side near the canine, was a little slit.
She said it was a fistula, that at some time he had had a bad sinus infection and this was how it drained. Said it didn't look recent at all, no sign of redness, and it might never heal shut. No big deal, really, she reassured mom, just check on it regularly to make sure it is clean and if he gets a cold we'll have to rinse it out.
He is so laid back, he probably wouldn't even mind. He does also have some gingivitis so we are going to give him a course of Antirobe.

The vet also said that clearly he was ment to live with us since he had a kinked tail and a wierd mouth.

His thyroid results should be in tomorrow or wednesday she said it takes 24-48 hours. he weighs a hair over 8lbs and is quite thin but not ribby.

mom forgot to get an invoice when she left (they were very busy) so she doesn't know exactly how much the visit was.
well, i guess when they figure out the medication dose she'll get an invoice then and let people know what is left. thanks PatM for your donation!!

the hole in his palette - the dark slit just to the right of the midline.
you can also see how much tarter he has, and the associated gingivitis.
