Post Surgery: Brain Cancer

Post by ChrisS »

First off I am new here as I am looking for all the help I can get for my pup Katie.

You see a month ago she was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on the skull and was partially attatched to the brain. We brought her to the Veterinary Hospital at Colorado State University last monday for the surgery where she came out of it fine and is doing great, she is actually back to her own self being loud and playful which is great.

However my problem is the top part of her skull is missing, the only thing thier is the muscle and the skin protecting her brain. Being she is a miniature dauchsund we went out and purchased a playpen for here to sleep in and converted my gameroom into a padded room where she would be safe.

My vet told me that thier are helmets for dogs, so far the only thing that I have found is here at handicappedpets and was wondering if these helmets would work for her if if thier is anything else I should look into. Like everyone here I only want the best for her.

thanks
Chris

helmets

Which helmet are you referencing? A similar question came up before, so we searched up a list of helmets, from dog motorcycle helmets to custom human helmets, that might be able to be used with a pupper. Let us know your experiences!!

Hi ChrisS,

I don't know exactly where the spot is or how large it is, but it might make you feel better to know that there is a congenital condition similar to what you describe that occurs in chihuahuas, and it's less of a problem than one might expect. Here is a link, and you could use the terms to look up more on it. Glad your puppy is doing so well!
